Gold in the land of what-ifs
Starting September, we asked you to submit work following the theme, “What if?” Since then, we’ve had so much fun reading your stories and poems and looking through the artwork.
For this competition, we also invited Ms. Su (our beloved English 10 Honors and AP Literature & Composition teacher) to be our guest judge!
What’s happening next?
The winning story can be accessed below (click on the title)! In addition, everyone who submitted will have work published in our upcoming Autumn 2020 edition.
To everyone who submitted work in the contest, we also promised to give feedback! Expect an email in the upcoming weeks!
Grand Prize
“What If Dreams Came True?” by Bea Zorzella (‘25)
Ms. Su said: I love the creativity in all these pieces, as well as the sense of humor. The winner really stole the show with her depth of characterization and the poetic opening and conclusion + plot twist!
Honorable Mentions
In addition to the grand prize winner, there were two other stories that stood out to us!
“Just a Spell of Writer’s Block” by Joyce Lee (‘25)
“Grimdark but Neither Grim nor Dark” by Ryan Cheng (‘21)
As we’ve said before and will say again, we really enjoyed everything that was submitted! You’ve wowed us again with your different interpretations of the theme. We’d also like to thank Ms. Su for being our guest judge! Consider joining her weekly hangouts during lunch on Thursdays because she’s a wonderful person and teacher. You might catch a couple of the editors there too!
Here’s to the next edition, coming out soon — if you submitted to one of our two contests, you’ll for sure be published!
We would appreciate any feedback because we’re always trying to engage more with everyone at school.
And of course… HAPPY THANKSGIVING! We, the editors, are grateful for you, for the magazine, for our school, for a weeklong break, and for food.
