Editor’s Note

Spring is a time of life, but also a time of struggle. Plants push their way past dirt and other foliage to struggle for sunshine. For every breath a newly-hatched bird breathes, its parents struggle to provide food. Struggle is a part of life, and we’ve felt that most this past year.

This edition reflects our struggle during the lockdown this spring. Students drew from history, music, and modern life to enrich real and fantasy worlds alike in writing. They captured life around us and far from us in photography and art — blooming flowers in striking clarity, towering cityscapes in bold brushstrokes, and lands far from home in vivid colors. Whether realistic or imaginary, close or distant, these works tell the common and extraordinary story of hardship and resilience that every person can relate to.

Keep going — we’re in this together.
