The Surprise Party

Poem by Michelle Wei (‘27)

| SPRING 2023 ISSUE | POETRY

Starts with a big load of thoughts from A to Z

Then thinks of her day, a box with tons of things like

A stack of tasks stacked one by one

Does not know that it is the date of her birth

As she stomps down the stairs, thinks and sees

In her eyes, spheres pumped with air wait for her

With mouths closed tight, saying no word at all

She then finds out that this girl was me.

About: A girl forgetting about her birthday realized that a surprise was waiting for her. As she stared at the balloons, she recalled that she was a 13 year old called "Michelle Wei". She expressed her surprise using only one-syllable words in this poem.
