An Ode to my Friend

Short and dependable are you

Always sounding out words so true

An ardent source of unabashed virtue.

I must say that this is true of you

On the best and worst days we have

You always make them a little less drab.

Your smile and demeanor

(and the fact that you are not a frequent sneezer)

Makes people happy and less like one Scrooge, Ebenezer.

There is plenty to like about you, Emma Lee

(like how you have the same last name as me!)

I’m plenty sure to look for people like thee

Those of fine, admirable character and quality

(and I’m lucky -ee rhymes with -y)

Those who are like you, Emma Lee
